Ron Westerweel (1954, Goes) schilderde tijdens zijn studie geneeskunde totdat dit niet meer te combineren viel. De toen gelegde basis bleek nog aanwezig toen hij het schilderen in 2016 weer oppakte. Na een cursus en zelfstudie is hij fulltime gaan schilderen met vanaf 2020 een eigen atelier/galerie aan de historische haven in Goes. Hij heeft zich vooral laten inspireren door de barok, grote Hollandse meesters, impressionisten, realisten en surrealisten. Je kunt eigenlijk ook zeggen, alles ‘pikkend’ wat hem past. Dat geldt ook voor de omgeving waar zo veel te zien is als je er oog voor hebt. Daarbij is een goede camera een geweldig hulpmiddel. Die hadden de oude meesters mooi niet.
Portretten, landschappen, dieren, een thema of toch maar eens wat bijzonders uit bijvoorbeeld de paddenstoelwereld. Zijn realistisch en deels surrealistisch werk kenmerkt zich door diversiteit, kleurrijkdom, themakeuzes, karakter en sfeer met de bij het onderwerp passende techniek. Als het even kan met wat humor en een verhaal.
Als materialen gebruikt hij acrylverf, water-vermengbare olieverf, aquarel, panpastel / pastelkrijt en houtskool.
Ron heeft geëxposeerd op verschillende Dutch Art Fairs, de Nationale Kunstdagen, Bubble Art Project (diverse Europese steden), Florence Biennale, Los Angeles artshow en in galeries. In 2021 kreeg hij een eervolle vermelding voor zijn uitzonderlijke kunst van de organisatie ‘Jakunst’. In januari 2023 ontving hij in Florence voor zijn artistieke verdiensten van de kunstcuratoren Salvatore Russo & Francesco Saverio Russo uit Rome de 'International Prize Donatello'. In april 2024 ontvangt hij in Milaan de 6e International Prize Leonardo da Vinci.

Ron Westerweel (1954, the Netherlands) painted during his medical studies until this could no longer be combined. The foundation laid then turned out to be still there when he picked up painting again in 2016. After a course and self-study, he started painting full-time with his own studio/gallery at the historic harbour in Goes from 2020 onwards. He is mainly inspired by the baroque, great Dutch masters, impressionists, realists and surrealists. You can actually say, 'pocketing’ everything that suits him. This also applies to the environment where there is so much to see if you are open to it.
A good camera is a great tool for this. The old masters didn't have that.
Portraits, landscapes, animals, a theme or something special from, for example, the mushroom world. His realistic and partly surrealistic work is characterized by diversity, colourfulness, theme choices, character and atmosphere with the appropriate technique for the painting subject. If possible with some humour and a story behind it.
As materials he uses acrylic paint, water-mixable oil paint, watercolour, panpastel / pastels and charcoal.
Ron has exhibited at several Dutch Art Fairs, the Nationale Kunstdagen, Bubble Art Project (several European cities), Florence Biennale, Los Angeles Artshow and galleries.
In 2021 he received an honourable mention for his exceptional art from the ‘Jakunst’ organisation. In January 2023, he received the 'International Prize Donatello' in Florence for his artistic merits from the art curators Salvatore Russo & Francesco Saverio Russo from Rome. In April 2024 he will receive in Milan the sixth International Prize Leonardo da Vinci.
